Solomon Islands Since 2012 the PacificTA has made significant improvements in the lives of Pacific Island communities and fostered some great working relationships between New Zealand and Pacific Island local government workers. Honiara City Council Honiara is the capital and gateway to the Solomon Islands. Honiara City Council joined the PacificTA programme in 2022. The Honiara City Council delivers a broad range of services through its following Divisions: Culture and tourism Education Finance and administration Health and medical services Human resource management and corporate services Law enforcement Markets Planning and building inspection Waste management and control Works and transport Youth, women and sports With a high youth population the Youth, Women and Sports Division of Honiara City Council are being supported to improve management and maximise utilisation of the multi-purpose facility. The multi purpose facility includes a hall and basketball stadium and was used as a Covid medical centre during the pandemic. The key to success at a multi-purpose facility is to have several groups in the venue at the same time using different rooms inside the building, while also using courts and sports fields outside the building – activating the spaces and improving revenue. Support has also been provided to improve landscaping and the broader facility environment. Honiara City Council also requested assistance to develop a three year council Corporate Plan. This work began in late 2023 and continued in 2024 after a new council was elected.
